And I'm lazy. Ah well, I can highlight it.
Didn't listen to much music today. Washed stuff. May be the best job here. Granted, it's like doing dishes at a crappy restaurant that just serves dirt, but I enjoyed it. It's yet, another tedious task that is much like properly doing laundry. Somethings get washed one way and others another. All reasoning is based upon what can and can't handle the water. The rocks can get submerged, if it's not limestone. Pottery/clay things can't get submerged, it has to be sponged clean or rubbed clean with a finger (rubbing the mud away). Bone needs to be handled extra much care as when it gets wet the top layer can crack off (not personal experience /end sarcasm).
So, these are dirty. They have to be washed until they're not slimy any more. That's the "stop washing these" point. Some can be washed too far. Yes, there is a "too clean." Some of the sherds have a "slip" which is an outer layer of clay that's generally reddish. That can be a horrid generalization. But, how I understand it is that it's a treatment put onto a pot.
But, the thing is I found some neat stuff. Some chert tools my supervisor said were probably for woodworking, a nice piece of sherd that had this neat dot pattern around the rim, and I got a bag labeled "mendable?" that was from the site I'll be working at this summer. It had all kinds of sherd pieces that were from the same piece. They all looked the similar, but it was effectively a clay jigsaw puzzle that was sitting in the ground for hundreds of years.
Anywho, after the joy of washing was more picking. Ate lunch inside, not in the truck; tried to be more sociable. Maybe I listened to... yeah, no clue. I listened to something but it escapes me. Guess I'll update this more frequently so I don't forget these things.
