Day 4.

Have you ever had to write really small? No, smaller than that. Smaller yet. Think as small as the copyright date on your favorite CD, maybe smaller. This is the world of labeling.

So, think about walking around in a museum and noticing the really really really small print on some of the artifacts in there. I vaguely recall some of this, but it's been a couple months since I've been to a museum. Anywhoozle, somebody actually hand writes that out. That's what I did today. We actually use a quill pen to write that in. Things that quill pens don't do well: curve. The split in the tip is what really prevents curves. There's a trick to that, though. If you hold it really flat and don't press too hard it'll make a partial curve, then you have to go back the other way and finish your circle, like for 8's or 0's or 9's. I only know this because I got a quill pen from the New York Public Library on my first trip to visit V while she was in school.

So, the process starts with washing, then the stuff has to dry for 2-3 days. Then you have to put the site number and bag number, one on top of the other, onto specific pieces. Anything larger than your thumbnail and if it's a lithic only the lithic tools.

The sherds get an artist's marker directly to the surface and in an inconspicuous spot. The sherds and rims get the quill pen w/ a layer of undercoat and an overcoat.

Then it all gets bagged like picking flots did.

Changed up lunch from the peanut butter sammich to the veggie burger hobby kit. Nice change, will have to do again.

Musical highlight of the day: listened to the new Me First and the Gimme Gimmes album.
