Into the field! But not until the ground thawed. Got out to the site by a bit after 10. The breeze from the river cooled things down, but it would have been a really nice day out had it not been for the wind. Mapped EB profiles. Pretty much it was just a profile of the area that had had been trenched out w/ a backhoe. All the stuff that was removed was "historic" material (material recorded in written history). All of this is just the layer above the "pre-historic" material we'll be digging out of features. So, these "historic" layers are filled with slag and silt and sand and gravel. The profile goes down to the "a horizon" and the subsoil. The map incorporates from that bottom all the way up to the modern surface. Similar to profiling features.
Anywho, it was cold, but the view was great. The old stockyards still had the livestock pens (sort of) standing. They looked precarious. Off in the distance there's a pair of brick chimney stacks and it all just looks like a page out of a history book. Got a tour by a past site. It's actually the site where the 8000+ features that we've been sifting through for flots came from. I'm assuming the features were all superimposed upon one another because the two fields he showed us just couldn't have held 8000 individual features.
Took a late lunch when we got back to the lab and went back to picking flots. Listened to Smodcast and some music. God, it escapes me at the moment. Ended the day with the Misfits, I know. The Get Up Kids, going back to that nostalgia thing.
Back into the field tomorrow. Going straight to the site. Need to figure time so I don't show up far earlier than the rest of the crew (the site's not in such a good neighborhood, not going to lie, I was a little frightened today).
