Again the field. Again a non-feature atop a feature. This time we weren't stopped soon enough so all the stuff we bagged for what we thought was an actual feature had to get re-bagged to a new number. Lot's of paperwork. Remapped the plan map twice, found a post within the hole we dug. Ended up bisecting it almost perfectly. It got assigned a feature.
But, inside this unnumbered feature I found some neat figurine fragments. One piece looked like a leg or an arm. One looked like perhaps a bird's head. Then I found this sweet rim that was probably the most full piece I've encountered. It ended up breaking into 3 pieces as I removed it from the dirt. Sigh. Underneath it a few more scrapes I found another piece that looked to be from the same piece. Listed it as mendable, hope they can work their magic in the lab. Past that was just alot of limestone and chert.
JB was getting me some paperwork and while he was showing me where it was at we had a pedestrian pull up w/ his kid sitting shotgun telling us about how they went to an archaeological site of importance nearby. He began probing as to if we'd been here long or if we'd found anything. Now, we're instructed to play the "we know nothing/we're not doing anything" card. JB says: "Haven't found much of anything, but this is just a preliminary examination of the area." So professional. So mysterious.
Anywho, haven't sited the pack of wild dogs yet. Oh yes, there's a roaming pack of wild dogs apparently. They have mace for that sort of thing.
Rain was threatening starting around noon. It spit till 230 or so, then around quarter to 3 it decided to start rolling out heavy. Got off early, went straight home. Barring rain in the morning should be back in the field tomorrow. If not, I'm sure we have plenty of flots to pick.
