Day 25.

24Apr09 Friday
Carpooled w/ BJS, believe this will be a common occurrence as he lives about half a mile from me. Today ended up back in the EB I started this site in. Worked w/ IJH on the monster pit he was tasked w/ on the first day. Yes, that's correct. He's been in the same hole since our first day digging real features. Zoinks.

So... this thing is pretty massive (in comparison to features I have experienced prior). The quarter that's completely excavated is up to my shoulders (head to toe I'm 6'2) and w/ the superimposed pit that was discovered yesterday this thing will be about big enough for a coffin.

The morning was fraught with fail. Apparently I need to invest in a small protractor to attach to the end of my folding rule (a la RLD) because I jacked up measurements for plan mapping due to lack of perpendicularity. Mostly frustrating, but this hole was huge. Half of it was excavated so we're running the tape over this gap where it was slacking. I didn't have the good sense to use a bucket and a brick to support it, TJZ set that up when he came by later in the morning.

Eventually, however we finally did get to dig. It was after lunch, the top crust was kind of baked out, but a cm or 2 down and we were good. Lots of goodies: numerous rims, some chert, sherds, etc.

Ended up having to remap the new feature (133) and that was the day. Got to tear a door off a wall, which was fun. Prepped the hole for a big rain this weekend (skeptical) and that was 430.

Despite the morning that didn't seem it would end the day went fairly quickly. Got warmer than I thought it would, drank a bunch of water. May have to look into removing sleeves from shirts.
