Monday: Lab. Was supposed to be in the field again, but was too muddy. I didn't mind that. I don't like mud. Mondays really are the bane of my existence, though. I get moodier on Mondays. At least I had my iPod to plug in and just ignore the world for a while. Do you ever feel completely disconnected from humanity? I guess days just do that sometimes.
Tuesday: Field. Started the day with another not really a feature. Not surprised at this point. They found a wall trench that ran through most of my "feature." So, I guess it could have been considered a feature, but it wasn't going to get treated normally. The trench did parallel one that was seen via machine scraping, though. So, that was a plus.
After that, I got sent to another excavation block (EB) w/ EMS. She was knee deep in a really wild pit that was full of stumpware. I got assigned 102 and 103. 102 ended up being a really for reals bonafide feature. It was only a post, but I was fine with that. It was actually a post w/ either a ramp (used for putting the post in the ground and raising it) or a "wobble" (where they would have wobbled it back and forth creating a widened hole that gets filled in). I got to do all the paperwork from start to finish. Flot-ed most of the second half. Was only 1 zone big, but I got to finish it.
I will admit, though, I was kind of jealous at how much stuff EMS was getting out of her pit. They ended up stopping excavation there for some reason or another, I forget why. But, man, some of the pieces she was pulling out were pretty awesome.
Wednesday: Field. Back to it into the EB I got moved to yesterday. Moved on to 103 and it was just a "rodent run" or some other disturbance. Excavated down, then MCT had me scrape back the profile wall a while. Moved to yet another EB that was on the other side of the job-site.
Yet another feature that wasn't so much. This one was... well it wasn't "not a feature" perse. It was part of something bigger. Excavated the entirety of my planned perimeter and there were not limits/edges on either side. And, it had 2 zones. I guess they didn't get designated properly as zones, but 2 layers. One darker, the top which was considered the fill, and a lighter under that considered the subsoil. They were both really subtly different. I couldn't tell until he drew the line. So, I was under the impression that they weren't different at all.
Anywho, after that I got to move a pile of back-fill so I could scrape to help define features. They started marking things, but I couldn't tell the difference, once again. Ah well. Maybe I'll get the hang of it.
Finished my day re-securing the tarps over the EB.
*apologies on the neglect. will do better, i promise.
