Day 26: 27Apr09
Lab day due to rain. Picked flots for 8 hours. Listened to... I forget, I guess it wasn't that important. V started w/ me today. Best Monday since I started.
Day 27: 28Apr09
Back in the field. Took the truck (scary) w/ BJS. Need to find a replacement for that in the soonish fashion.
Site was muddy muck. Bailed a bit before we started. Got to help ELW and BJS w/ their structure. Performed first window cut into a wall trench today. Was interesting to see that what looks like 1 trench on the surface was actually 2. We 3 got called off to the other side of the site to assist in feature definition.
The soil on that side was really clay-y. It was like digging through a tire. Found neat things. Supervisor altercation. Conflicting ideals. One is aware of the bottom line, the other is passionate about his art. Felt like mom and dad were yelling at the table. Awkward. Air was unsettling the rest of the day. That could be due to the fat rendering plant nearby. It smelled like the grease in the bottom of a thanksgiving turkey's pan after roasting and being set out 2 days.
Went back to EB44 in time for lunch, afterward mapped window cuts (4) in profile w/ BJS. Oh, first mapped the temp nails and new feature (within the structure) nails. After all that dug one of the internal features. Well, started the pit. It's up against the southern wall trench. Found a piece of chert near the surface of the western edge, lots of bioturbation. Thought the evenly spaced darker stains near the AB line could be posts, as the AB is so close to the wall trench. Swung my shovel till close to close, tarped up and went home. The interstate was a nightmare. It seems that stupid people abound at rush hour, go figure.
