Ethics in Hobbies.

Been watching machine with a few guys this week. Mentioned my new hobby in flintknapping and one is kind enough to bring me some supplies: a shed antler with beautiful tines, a large slab of chert, and a hammerstone (though more an abrading stone). This morning I misheard him and thought he was assuring me that it wasn't an actual prehistoric artifact. But, he was assuring me that in fact it was a prehistoric artifact.

Now, he's a nice guy. Pretty funny, if not a bit lewd. However, he's a bit of a collector. I may have insulted him a bit by suggesting people who would remove artifacts from possible sites were looters. Anywho, he collects. The piece is completely removed from it's context (at least I assume as much) and when I sought advice from MCT he suggested that I just throw the piece away. But, in doing so I feel that I would be doing a disservice to the stone and to the culture that it was removed from. At the same time I feel iffy on keeping it at all. It's like keeping a tv I know fell off the back of a truck. Sigh.

Anywho, for those interested Alfonzo's still has spectacular tomato basil pizza and fried green beans. And check out MGMT's Kids. Great track, in fact that whole album has grown on me.
