Break from work was pleasant. Lack of pay won't be, but we'll manage. Holidays were splendid as always: time with family, ate too much, put a bunch of miles on the car. I kind of wish I felt now the way I did when I was younger. There used to be a magic in the air, an anticipation. That's all somehow gone. It's just another day. I don't know when it all happened, but it did.
We planned to go see the new Sherlock Holmes on New Year's Eve, but it was packed and sold out. So, we went back on New Years Day... it was packed and sold out. So, on 2Jan10 we finally got to see Sherlock Holmes. I didn't go in expecting much, except that one review I read said that Guy Ritchie wanted to make it a graphic novel on screen or some such. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. I'd probably go see it again. If there's a sequel (which I've already researched and have a good feeling there will be) I'll go see it. What I was more disappointed in were the previews. The problem I have with Hollywood is that everything gets recycled (I should preface this rant with some knowledge that you may not be privy to: 1. I worked as a video clerk for about 7 years. It paid the bills, gave me time to work on school work, and generally allowed me to indulge in one of my favorite past times, movies. 2. I love movies. I'm fairly particular, anymore, about what I watch. At one time I'd bring home whatever was coming out that didn't look completely God awful, read Anaconda. But, over time I acquired a certain taste, became elitist, and decided to voice my opinions wherever possible). By recycled I mean another damn Clash of the Titans (not to be confused with Clash of the Titans) or another The Sorcerer's Apprentice or the popular 3d holiday hit A Christmas Carol. Now, you might say Sherlock Holmes... how is this different? It's a different take on something, a fresh look at an old idea. I might give that to Sorcerer, but it fell in the wake of Titans and I was just upset. If Titans or Carol weren't just eye candy for a new generation and maybe went a new direction maybe I wouldn't be so upset.
After taking a look at the year and life as a whole, this year I thought I'd make an effort to commit to a list of resolutions. Sure, it's just another list. But, when I was cleaning out my old writing desk I found this notebook with a list on the back page, of things I wanted to accomplish, and lo and behold I had accomplished everything on it. Granted, it was something like 8 years in the making, but hey they got done. That's what kind of prompted me to put together this list. Those things got done, so maybe these will. And sure, maybe they're all things everybody could do, but I think they're applicable to me.
Anywho, Happy New Year. Back to work tomorrow.
